Here is a nice article about Trinity lacrosse from Ryan Rohde at Lax Power, which is a site that ranks high school & college lacrosse teams and also serves as a portal for lacrosse information.  http://www.laxpower.com/laxnews/news.php?story=14664

2009 Rock Steady Lacrosse Camp for boys entering grades 5-9 will be held at Trinity on June 3-5 in the stadium .  The PDF form is below.

The beginners clinic will be 2 days & only requires a stick to attend, it's $50.  The intermediate & advanced camps will be held all three days & cost $135 ($125 if the form is mailed in before May 15th).  The advanced camp will be held in the evening, so you can still attend if the last day of school has been extended for inclement weather.  Ideally, the advanced camp is for players who have played at least 2 spring seasons in the KLA league.

For our current players, I will give you service hours for helping out with the camp - contact me.  Please let all of the middle school players know that the form is up & have them visit this page.

If they have any questions, please call me to discuss 502-608-7164 or pete {at} schroeder [dot] net.

The Armadillo Game
between Washington & Lee and North Carolina in 1982 is discussed in some detail at the link below, which includes game video that is new to me.  This tactic has since been outlawed but this game still has a unique place in lacrosse lore after all of these years.  The video will show you a little about where lacrosse has come from.  Thanks to laxpower forum poster D-III for the link:

http://wlarmadillo.com/

And before any of the kids ask, no I did not play in this game, I was 14 in '82.

**9/6/07** - Trinity has made this month's issue of Inside Lacrosse magazine.

There is a piece & a picture on page 60 about the state title game & the growth of lacrosse in Kentucky.

You can buy the issue at
http://www.insidelacrosse.com/page2.cfm?pagerid=21&view=PROD&cat=72792&HIDECONTENT=YES&prod=169032
It's a well-produced magazine, I believe it's $36 for an annual subscription.  Well worth it, I've been a subscriber for some time.

**6/27/2007**  Pete Carril was the head basketball coach at Princeton where he won 500 games, and then went on to be an assistant coach with the Sacremento Kings.  Here are 25 Little Things To Remember from his book, The Smart Take from the Strong, many of them apply to lacrosse:

1. Every little thing counts. If not, why do it?
2. When closely guarded, do not go toward the ball. Go back-door.
3. Whenever you cut, look for a return pass.
4. When you commit to a cut (or back-door) do not stop and do not come back to the ball.
5. Bad shooters are always open.
6. On offense, move the defense.
7. Putting defensive pressure on the ball makes it harder for the other team to run an offense and gives your team a better chance to defend.
8. In a zone or any defense, when their five men guard your three men, look to throw cross-court passes.
9. Watch the man in front of you. He shows you what to do.
10. Keep your dribble. Use it when you are going to do something useful.
11. A pass is not a pass when it is made after you've tried to do everything else.
12. A good player knows what he is good at. He also knows what he is not good at and only does the former.
13. You want to be good at those things that happen a lot.
14. When the legs go, the heart and the head follow quickly behind.
15. Defense involves three things: courage, energy, intelligence.
16. If your teammate does not pass the ball to you when you're open and he doesn't say anything, then he did not see you. If he says "I'm sorry," he saw you and did not want to throw you the ball.
17. In trying to learn to do a specific thing, the specific thing is what you must practice. There is little transfer of learning.
18. Whatever you are doing is the most important thing that you're doing while you're doing it.
19. Anyone can be average.
20. Being punctual is good in itself. However, what is more important is that your punctuality tells your teammates what you think of them.
21. Hardly any players play to lose. Only a few play to win.
22. I like passers. They can see everything.
23. The way you think affects what you see and do.
24. Rarely does a person who competes with his head as well as his body come out second. That was said even before Coach Vince Lombardi by the Greeks and the Romans, and probably by the Chinese.
25. The ability to rebound is in inverse proportion to the distance your house is from the nearest railroad tracks.

Information on the 2008 upperclass tryouts is to the right.  I need to firm up the dates with the park but the general format is outlined in the handout to the right.

School starts in about 35 days, tryouts start soon after that.  Camp is good, but if summer is 80 days long & you go to camp for 4 days, do not take the other 95% of the summer off, you will have wasted $400.  Have an action plan & work it.

I am working on team access to the Marshall Center, I hope to have that information later in July.

In the meantime, after going to the gym for many years, I have found a different way to train.  It is called cross-fit, locally I'm training with a guy named Dave Randolph at Kentuckiana Cross-Fit.  Cross-fit training involves equipment like kettlebells, clubbells, sandbags, a prowler, body-weight & some barbell work as well.  I have found that there is more muscle endurance involved than just training for X # of reps for Y # of sets like I did for years in the gym.  But there are also plenty of opportunities to work on explosive strength.

In addition to being certified as an instructor in cross-fit & kettlebells, Dave is also a 5th-degree black belt in Shaolin Do, his martial arts background has provided me a different way of looking at training.  In a few months with Dave, my diastolic blood pressure is down about 10 points, I am seeing results.  And I am seeing a lot of possible synergies with this training & lacrosse.

Dave & I are exploring a series of cross-fit workouts tailored to lacrosse, please let he or I know if you are interested in participating.  And there are adult classes as well if your parents or older siblings are interested.  His website is www.iron-body.com,
